Armando Hernandez and Nadia Holguin are a husband and wife team that rose to prominence in the Phoenix Metro Area for Tacos Chiwas, known for its Chihuahuan inspired cuisine and avid following.
In 2022, they will bring their iconic flavors to Culdesac Tempe with Cocina Chiwas, the first ever full-scale location of the Chiwas brand.
Cocina Chiwas will serve an expanded menu and fresh seasonal food, with elevated versions of some of their favorite dishes that they would "typically cook for family and friends." At Cocina Chiwas, you will find everything from innovative chile-centric vegetable bowls and wood-fired cheese crisps, to refreshing hibiscus margaritas served over a brunch consisting of deconstructed breakfast burritos, Chihuahuan french toast, and seasonal salads.
Nadia Holguin was a semifinalist for the James Beard Best Chef — Southwest category, and is looking forward to expanding the palette of the Tacos Chiwas brand with Cocina Chiwas. And while they maintain national recognition, Hernandez and Holguin have been pivotal in leading local community efforts, like serving thousands of tacos to overburdened healthcare workers during the pandemic.
Armando is looking forward to making Cocina Chiwas a celebration of his homestate of Chihuahua, Mexico.
